Kelston, New Zealand
Kelston is a residential suburb of Waitakere, one of the four cities that make up the Auckland metropolitan area in northern New Zealand. At the 2001 census, it has a population of 3,975.
Originally a ceramics manufacturing centre, the area is now mostly residential, including a number of schools.
Education
- Kelston Boys High School is a single-sex state secondary (years 9-15) school with a roll of 1054 and a decile rating of 4. is renowned for its rugby union team, the Kelston Boys High 1st XV. The school has produced a number of All Blacks, and regularly wins Auckland, nationwide and even worldwide secondary school rugby championships. [1]
- Kelston Girls College is a single-sex state secondary (years 9-15) school with a roll of 910 and a decile rating of 3.[2]
The above two schools are the only single-sex state schools in West Auckland, and their zones encompass the whole of Waitakere city.
- Kelston Deaf Education Centre is a coeducational state special school with a roll of 127 and a decile rating of 3. Opened in 1958, Kelston caters for hearing-impaired children from the northern half of the North Island, from preschool to year 15. It has boarding facilities. Some senior classes are held in conjunction with Kelston Boys High School. [3]
- Kelston Intermediate is a coeducational state intermediate (years 7-8) school with a roll of 329 and a decile rating of 3. [4]
- Kelston School is a coeducational state contributing primary (years 1-6) school with a roll of 388 and a decile rating of 3. [5]
- St Leonards Road School is a coeducational state contributing primary (years 1-6) school with a roll of 515 and a decile rating of 3.[6]
- Local Catholic boys commute to St Peter's College or Liston College. Marist College and St Dominic's College, Henderson are available for girls.
